Between jobs

Feeds the whole crew at a long table on Fridays.
Sleeps in the mill office during storms.
Swears in Italian at any machine that stalls.

What she needs done

A worker who sits at the Friday table.
A quiet hour with someone who hears her.

Where she draws the fence

Won't lay off a loyal hand.
Doesn't accept help the first time it's offered.

How she gives orders

Loud: capitals on the verbs, exclamation marks she earned by shouting over saws. Then three quiet lines when it matters. Swears in Italian at machinery. Ends with 'Eat something.'

How you stand

You signed on for the season and she has handed you earplugs and a hard hat.

She's loud because she's happy, and she is happy today.
